Kelli Duncan is a teaching artist currently located in Eugene, Oregon.
Although she was born in Charleston, West Virginia, Kelli spent most of her life in Phoenix, Arizona, and considers herself an Arizonan.
Kelli began her instrumental music journey at a time when Arizona was a thriving innovation hub for tuba and euphonium performance and pedagogy. She would earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from Arizona State University, having studied with Dr. Pat Stuckemeyer, Sam Pilafian, and Dr. Deanna Swoboda. After graduating with her Master's degree in 2021, Kelli moved up the coast to complete her studies at the University of Oregon, where she currently studies with Mike Grose and serves the tuba studio as a graduate teaching assistant.
Comfortable with many musical styles, she is interested in expanding the performance scope of the euphonium in the public eye. Throughout her career, she performed in an eclectic spectrum of ensembles and performance opportunities including jazz bands, wind ensemble, orchestras, tuba/euphonium choir, trombone choir, alternative rock band, brass quintet, brass band, and much more!
As a group educator, Kelli frequently partners with middle and high schools to work with brass sections, jazz bands, and to lead breathing clinics. She is presently the Low Brass Coordinator for the brass staff for The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps in Tempe, Arizona, a staff she has served on for five years. She previously served as head of brass instruction for the marching bands at Desert Ridge High School, Chandler High School, and Casa Grande Union High School, was a trombone technician with the ASU Sun Devil Marching Band, and served the University of Oregon Marching Band as a Graduate Employee. Kelli has a deep love for the pageantry arts and is always looking for new opportunities in teaching, design, and judging!
Kelli has taught private lessons to brass students of a great variety of ages for over 12 years, both independently and in partnership with public schools and educational organizations. She takes the most pride in the confidence and love of music she's seen develop in her students, but her students have also obtained many measurable successes such as:
acceptance into University music programs
membership and solos for World Class drum corps
placements into Arizona, Oregon, and Texas All-State and All-Region wind band, orchestra, and jazz ensembles
qualification for Oregon State Solo and Ensemble festival
solo recitals
and many more!
She has always wanted to live in beautiful Oregon! Kelli currently runs a thriving independent low brass studio in Eugene in addition to her duties as a Graduate Employee at the University of Oregon. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the vast wonders of the Pacific Northwest and relaxing at home with her two beloved cats.
